How to Get Involved
Attending Community Board and Committee Meetings
We encourage the public to attend the Community Board’s various public hearings, committee meetings, informational meetings and special events to participate actively in the items before the Community Board at the grassroots level. All meetings of the Community Board are open to the public, and are posted on our online Calendar. Committee meetings are the appropriate forum for active community engagement, and we encourage members of the public to attend those meetings for their considerations to be accounted before recommendations are presented to the full board.

Speaking at Community Board and Committee Meetings
A section of every General (Full) Community Board meeting is set aside for the board to hear from the public. At the front of the meeting room there will be a sign-in sheet labeled “Community Session” where anyone is invited to sign in to speak for up to 3 minutes. The Chairperson will acknowledge speakers in the order they sign in. You can register to speak at any time during the meeting until the last speaker’s name is called and the Chairperson declares the Community Session section of the meeting closed. No pre-registration is necessary.
If you wish to speak on a subject that is scheduled to be heard before a committee, you may be interrupted and referred to that committee in order to have your comments heard and considered in the proper forum.
Every speaker will be given a maximum of three (3) minutes to present their matter to the board. Speakers will be interrupted by the Chairperson at the end of their three (3) minutes and must relinquish the floor. If you are interrupted by the Chairperson before the end of your three (3) minutes, please follow the instructions of the Chairperson. If allowed to continue, the Chairperson’s instructions will not count as part of the speaker’s three (3) minute allotment. Groups who appear to present on the same topic should consider selecting a spokesperson to speak on their behalf. Speakers may not transfer time between speakers. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Joining a CB6 Committee
Although CB6 committee membership must be composed primarily of a majority of Board Members, membership is also open to Non-Board Members as well. This allows for broader public representation on the Community Board’s standing committees, and encourages and facilitates citizen participation in local government within our communities.
Individuals who wish to serve on a committee may apply online or download the application form and return it to the CB6 District Office [email protected]. Appointments to committees for a one-year term are effective September 1. Non-Board Members who are appointed to a committee enjoy the same participatory rights and are expected to fulfill the same member-related responsibilities as Board Members serving on committees.

Committee Meeting Schedule
The various committees of CB6 meet on regular, fixed nights beginning at 6:30pm. These occasionally must be rescheduled due to holiday conflicts, extreme weather, or holding joint meetings sponsored by more than one committee. All meetings are open to the public and are posted on our website Calendar, LINK NYC kiosks, and via the District Manager’s weekly newsletter.
