Middle Housing Gone Missing! from Rebecca Kobert

Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT)

As announced in May 2024, New York City and the NY/NJ Port Authority will enable the City and State to engage in land transfer (to the city with EDC as the lead) with the hope of transforming the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern maritime port and vibrant mixed-use community hub. Brooklyn Community Board 6, represented by District Manager Mike Racioppo, is part of the task force that will (hopefully) shape this transformation. We’ve listed this below and will continue to do so throughout the process. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Racioppo at [email protected].

As of on January 1, 2024, building owners must have an annual observation of their building parapets performed. This requirement applies to all buildings with parapets fronting the public right-of-way, regardless of height. For guidance on who this applies to, how to record an observation report, and how to store said reports, see this visual guide from the Department of Buildings (DOB). Please note that any ads from inspectors posted around the district are not distributed by DOB, nor are they DOB-approved/endorsed vendors, and you do not need to hire them to be in compliance with this rule.
