Transportation, Parks and Public Infrastructure
The Transportation, Parks, and Public Infrastructure Committee (TPPI) reviews projects, studies, programs, policy initiatives, and services that impact neighborhood circulation, pedestrian/cyclist infrastructure, street greening, safe road sharing, open spaces/pedestrian plazas, mass transit accessibility, and recreational and cultural offerings in the public realm. The committee prioritizes improving safety, access, and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders, including in and around open spaces like Prospect Park. The committee addresses intermodal transportation issues, including public transportation systems, truck routes, highways and tunnels, and maritime traffic. Waterfront transit and recreational interventions within the district are reviewed in this committee, particularly about the Red Hook waterfront, the Red Hook Container Port along the Columbia Street District waterfront, and the Gowanus Canal. Public parks and the nonprofits that help manage and fund them (i.e., Prospect Park Alliance, Red Hook Conservancy, Cobble Hill Association), privately owned public spaces (POPS), community gardens, and street greening initiatives fall under the committee’s purview.
TPPI provides a platform for agencies (DOT, MTA, NYC Parks, FDNY, et al.) to engage with the public and disseminate information on policies and programs to ensure community safety and equitable access. The committee oversees emergency services delivery, including Police (76th and 78th Precincts, Housing PSA 1, Transit District 30 and 32), Fire, and Emergency Medical Services.
